Kyaikto (Golden Rock), Kin Pun
(3.8/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
A massive gilded boulder, Kyaikto (Golden Rock) defies gravity on the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the densely forested area of Mount Kyaiktiyo west of Yangon. Standing at 1,100 m (3,609 ft) and entirely covered with golden leaves pasted on by monks, this magnificent balancing granite rock serves as the base of a small 7.3 m (24 ft) tall pagoda enshrining a hair of Buddha. The 7.6 m (25 ft) natural wonder resembles the head of an ascetic, making the spot one of Burma's most sacred Buddhist sites. Many observation decks provide 360-degree panoramas of the area. Take a crowded open-top truck at a stop some 1.5 km (1 mi) from the summit or hike to the top. Note that women may not touch the rock. • Luckily we started from bago, reached the night before with the common bus. Departure at 7:30, arrival at Golden rock shortly before noon! Thankfully the walk is very short, the bus truck where you're crammed close to 2000kyats model sardine brings each. It's hard to get out of. Do 15 photos and start again. To take a bus to 13:30, new arrivals in yangoon to 18:30, then Hi ... Congratulations to get into town at that hour from the bus station. At a glance? Nice, maybe at sunset would deserve more, but rather hard to get there. Do not recommend to travelers with more than 50 years out of shape, maybe it wouldn't be worth the effort

  • An impressive natural spectacle and a mystical, Buddhist place, which can be reached either by a 7 hour hike up or cooped up between pilgrims in an Achterbahnfart in the truck.
