A massive gilded boulder, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda defies gravity on the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the densely forested area of Mount Kyaiktiyo west of Yangon. Standing at 1,100 m (3,609 ft) and entirely covered with golden leaves pasted on by monks, this magnificent balancing granite rock serves as the base of a small 7.3 m (24 ft) tall pagoda enshrining a hair of Buddha. The 7.6 m (25 ft) natural wonder resembles the head of an ascetic, making the spot one of Burma's most sacred Buddhist sites. Many observation decks provide 360-degree panoramas of the area. Take a crowded open-top truck at a stop some 1.5 km (1 mi) from the summit or hike to the top. Note that women may not touch the rock. The truck costs 2000MMK andthe entrance to rock 10000MMK for foreigners, a little excessive. The views from the top are beautiful.

We flew in just to visit this site. It was amazing. We had to board a truck at the base of the mountain and spend the next 45 minutes riding up the windy road. The drivers were very good but hold on, ... more »

The site is quite magical, and there should be enough time to stroll in the nearby village. A pretty unique experience.

Interesting experience!!!!.... especially the truck/bus ride up and down! It's not the most comfortable drive! Having said that, the place is amazing, with some spectacular views of surrounding mountainous area... Definitely worth seeing. Do respect the Buddhists traditions even if you are not Buddhist! Lots of stalls to buy all kinds of things, from food to souvenirs... Seeing the porters carry every thing is fascinating to see!

Passing through the fogs, I finally reach to golden rock. I.could not found that much charm from it. I admired belief in Buddhism of Burmese.

Kyite Htee Yoe , Golden Rock , is one of the most famous place in Myanmar . Many visitors are visit to this place in winter season ( Nov to Feb) . In summer ( March to May) , local visitors are visit to this place because they have long vacation time. In rainy season , most of the shop are closed and also the visitors are not too much even as summer.

It's unique & different then anything else. The view is great, also a cool little village up there. But if you want to see the sunset be prepared to pay double to go back down on the trucks. The last one leaves at 6pm.
