  • Went to visit as a short afternoon excursion. Sadly most of the caves were closed due to flooding, so beware of that in rainy season. The one we did see was interesting though, and the many white and ...  more »
  • Fabulous site. The Shwe Oo Min pagoda and the Buddhist cave are worth a visit. The caves are large, amazing, sinuous and decorated more than 8'000 Buddhas. Impressive. Access is quite easy. Walk between all these Buddhas is unique and makes this essential site. Continuing on the flank, we reach a large Buddha sitting of 12 meters. I just pity the massive construction and doreede two elevators that are unsightly to be spoil the vision of the site from the bottom. However, the platform has the merit of offering an amazing view of the plain and the Lake Pone Taloke. A must see.

  • This is a natural cave that contains more than 9000 Buddha statues of all sizes and made with a wide variety of materials, from wood to marble. Something like I had already seen in Laos, Mekong boat trip down the River: in that case the cave was less impressive and the number of statues was about 5000. Entering the cave you can take three different directions and turn it all becomes almost an enterprise for the greatness of it. The statues date back only from the late 18th century and over time they were added continuously by Buddhist pilgrims. The cave is situated on an Escarpment above the town, and you can get there through some stairs that lead up to its input, or with a lift (what we did). A legend says that a big spider lived in the cave and that this one day fell some princesses who holed up inside the cave. At the base of the climb is depicted this giant spider and the figure of an Archer that he will kill the spider. The panorama when you are on top before entering the cave is truly exceptional. It's a visit you can't miss if cisi located in Myanmar.
