Inle Lake, Myanmar
(4.5/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Natural and unpolluted, with fantastic mountainous scenery, Inle Lake stands out as the second largest lake in Myanmar, and also the country's highest altitude lake. Enjoy a spectacular leg-rowing performance by native lake-dwellers or fishermen casting their cone-shaped nets, or take your pick of the wares at a daily floating market. Standing at an altitude of 880 m (2,900 ft), this freshwater lake covers some 116 sq km (45 sq mi), providing a home to nine endemic species of fish and over 20 species of snails. This popular tourist spot offers classy hotels, but also low-budget, family-run accommodation. You can rent a bike, visit a massage parlor, or enjoy Shan State cuisine, a favorite in the country. • Beautiful Lake with great impressions. + Fishing boats with the unique special rowing technique. + Floating garden + fascinating life at the sea + houses on stilts in the water + local family business weaving scarves from Lotus, silver goods + home for Burmese cats - with increasing tourism more tourist than fishing boats - rush hour by tourist boats in the morning and in the evening

  • To explore the Inle Lake area, I did base in Nyaungshwe, village caters well for tourists and excellent base for rent a motor launch. I recommend having the full-day excursion (you pay more or less 25,000 kiats) which leads to touch various points around the Lake. The whole area of the Lake is a protected ecosystem, nature is impressive, wild, lush and breathtakingly beautiful. Approaching the Lake the feeling is of being immersed in a picture: shimmering green aquatic vegetation, floating gardens, villages built on stilts, changing colors, stupa in the distance, different scenarios all to be discovered. Wonderful look at the technique used by local fishermen and the sunset. Il barcarolo will follow more or less the following stages: Silver factory, where you can watch the same craftsmanship, atelier of fabrics (the Lake is famous for the manufacture of cotton fabrics, silk and Lotus), pottery, cigar factory. All these places are extremely fascinating but watch out if you just want to buy something because everything is very sovrapprezzato (better go to the Mingala Market and take the same things at one third the price). The Lake is the place that I loved the most about absolute throughout my trip to Burma. A place of a priceless and unique beauty. Don't miss it!

  • Wonderful place. a must do a bike ride along the Lake, to explore all the villages that flank. delicious Inthein and the site of stupas that dominates. round with the motor boat (I did at the end of a trek from kalaw) does make the stages in places and in tourist shops and expensive, but worth it. A place of Enchantment.
