Ananda Temple, Bagan

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web
A well-preserved masterpiece of Bagan architecture, Ananda Temple displays delicate stone-carved facades and an impressive pyramid-shape structure, with a magnificent gilted central tower that can be seen from far away. Built in 1105, this outstanding example of fine craftsmanship, a landmark of Bagan, has been well-restored, and still displays some of the original murals and stucco. Marvel at four 9.5 m (31 ft) tall gilded statues of standing Buddhas inside this simple but very large corridor temple. A popular escape from the busy city, the grandiose 53 by 53 m (174 by 174 ft) yard of the temple provides tranquility set against the tall carved cliff. Take an ox-drawn cart for a time machine trip during your visit to this must-see attraction. • A real must-see for Bagan. A very large temple with excellent images of Buddha and his stories. We had a guide, so he explained a lot about this temple, the religion and the architecture. It really is the highlight of Bagan (second only to the sunrise balloon ride.) Restoration of the fresco ,(or mursls) is continuing but there are plenty too see now.
  • Beautiful temple! As it is close to old Bagan, always lots of ppls! Will better to be there in afternoon, while ppl see the sunset!
  • Statues are my favourites. Known for best architecture in Bagan! Not well preserved though.
  • Worth a visit even if you have one day. It's a well preserved example.
  • Beautiful. This temple is big and beautiful. If you look at the statues of buddha from far, you can see it smiling.
