Ananda Temple, Bagan

4.7
Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
A well-preserved masterpiece of Bagan architecture, Ananda Temple displays delicate stone-carved facades and an impressive pyramid-shape structure, with a magnificent gilted central tower that can be seen from far away. Built in 1105, this outstanding example of fine craftsmanship, a landmark of Bagan, has been well-restored, and still displays some of the original murals and stucco. Marvel at four 9.5 m (31 ft) tall gilded statues of standing Buddhas inside this simple but very large corridor temple. A popular escape from the busy city, the grandiose 53 by 53 m (174 by 174 ft) yard of the temple provides tranquility set against the tall carved cliff. Take an ox-drawn cart for a time machine trip during your visit to this must-see attraction. To visit Ananda Temple and other attractions in Bagan, use our Bagan road trip planner.

  • I love this temple. It is kinda huge. When you go inside, you don't feel hot anymore. The air circulation is the best.
  • Actually my favourite of all temples. It's has quite a special structure. Impressive Buddha statues
  • Very pretty temple, Huge... many different rooms inside. Must remove shoes and socks. Some stalls at the back, nice to see and maybe buy some souvenirs. free parking!
  • Ananda Pagoda is one of the famous pagodas in bagan. Outside area is wide and spacious. During sunsets, you can see the beautiful sun rays. Outside place is for the photographer who wants to get nice photos.
  • Beautiful inside and outside. Though I recommend going very early as after 7am it gets busy and by early afternoon there was many bus loads of very loud and obnoxious Chinese tourist who were not at all respectful towards Buddhist culture. Disappointing to visit a place where tourist are so disrespectful. ***I must say the Chinese have to learn to show respect and behave accordingly!!!
