  • A very well kept garden around which, as in every riad, stands a mausoleum full of plaster decorated walls rich in those jobs that create great convoluted. Important and massive wooden doors of Cedar of Lebanon lead in different environments which, unfortunately, cannot be visited by non-Muslims. The mosque, which opens on the left side you can just see spaces but only from the outside. It is full of rugs for all its breadth. Nearby you can go and see the "Lourdes" Muslim with the library which contains over 4000 manuscripts, the oldest of which dates back to 1070 and is opened by the owner-custodian of the ripe old age of 86 years explaining, even in Italian, the different manuscripts.

  • The exterior is nice but the interior is the real star. Palm trees abound. All roads lead to a fountain in the middle. There is some nice tile work. The mausoleum itself cannot be visited by tourists ...  more »

  • The few tourists who venture to Rissani, ancient Sijilmassa, capital of Tafilalet, often have to base the Moulay Ali CHÉRIF mosque, the name of the founder of the alaouite dynasty. Born in 762 and died in 847 the AH at the age of 85, he hails from Yanboua, in Saudi Arabia. He was buried, in a first step, to the zawiya of Tighmart in 200 km from Rissani until his body is transferred to the current mausoleum, built under the reign of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in 1206 of the hegira. During his lifetime, Moulay Ali Chérif was a great man of faith, a Mujahid and an illustrious scientist who passed his knowledge to a large number of his followers. His teachings were followed until Andalusia where he spent more than 20 years. The shrine mosque that bears his name is one of the most beautiful monuments of the Tafilalet region. The mausoleum which has been rebuilt in 1965 after its destruction by a flood of the oued Ziz decorated ceramics has of an imposing portal and gives access to the large room housing the tomb of Moulay Ali Chérif. The enclosure includes a large courtyard, a patio and a picturesque mosque dominated by a magnificent dome with a length of 11 meters 7 m width and a height of 15 metres, decorated according to the rules of the Moroccan architectural art. The sanctuary includes, in addition to the unassuming Moulay Ali Chrif and his son Moulay me Hamed and Moulay Youssef, those of Sidi El Habib ben Zine El Abidine Ben Moulay Ismaël and Moulay Rachid Ben Sidi Mohamed Ben Abderrahmane. The town of Rissani where this high place in history was built on the ruins of Sijilmassa, town that reached its peak in the 7th century. From archaeological excavations, can be read in the site of Errachidia, this city had a main avenue that measures more than a kilometre in length, it is one of the largest cities of the medieval Africa. In 1998, a map of the central part of Sijilmassa, developed by a mission-Moroccan - American, shows several buildings surface like the great mosque and the Citadel, the walls remain visible. A map of 1996, developed using aerial photos and satellite images, taken indicates the location of the underground main walls and major arteries: an image of the city that has been described, more than 1,000 years ago in its outline. Besides the location of a cemetery and the market of international transactions, an industrial complex, updated to the West of the city on the Bank of the oued Ziz, shows several rooms, interconnected by a system of drains, would have been used in the washing the ores, knowing that, in medieval Maghreb, all gold exported by merchants was hit in Sijilmassa, as reported by Al Masoudi. Medieval Arab account books attest to the importance of Almoravid dinar of Sijilmassa, whose some parts were found in France, on the way to their transit by Genes to the Middle East. In 1992, in Jordan at Aqaba, other parts have been discovered during excavations in the old port, at the door of the Red Sea. The ceramic industry was another sector of activity all also thriving as evidenced by objects found at several sites. BUZZEFF. TV inRead invented by Teads a former Trade Center Le Tafilalet has played a leading role in the history of the country. The ancient Sijilmassa was born in 1640 the alawite dynasty. Moulay Ali Chérif was the founder. The Tafilalet, it is also a shopping mall which was very important for many centuries. Main gate of the Sahara, Tafilalet served as a place of exchanges between the North and the far south and it is through this region was the transit of gold and spices to Sudan and Guinea great (side of the Gulf of Guinea)
