Built in 1672-1674, El Hedim Square faces Bab el-Mansour and was commissioned by Moulay Ismail as the square for royal announcements and public executions. There is a fresh produce market within the square and countless shops sell handicrafts and all sorts of trinkets. Its edges are lined with cafes, shops, and restaurants, and this vibrant market comes alive with musicians and street dancers.   • The square can undisputedly be called the heart of Meknes. It called square of destruction or ruins because Moulay Ismail razed the houses that were here in order to give his palace a grand entrance.....  more »
