#10 of 329 in Things to do in Fes
Observe traditional tanning traditions from a balcony in Moulay Abdellah Quarter, home to numerous leather shops that preserve a manufacturing process unchanged for centuries. You'll receive a branch of mint to help you combat the permeating smell, and often a guide from the shop will offer to explain the tricks and technicalities of the tanning procedure. Afterwards, you can browse the shops and haggle for quality leather items, without obligation to purchase anything. • You can climb a leather shop and see the people working in the dyeing of leather. The most expensive is the amarrlo that is dyed with saffron. After visota of course you're taken to shop where there is beautiful coats, you asked for EUR 750 and at the end you will sell for 180 or 190 euros. Are beautiful and well done.

  • when you will arrive to this area a lot of people will invite you to get to them store to see the leather factory, there is no other way to see it except from the stores. the satires are very narrow and a lot, very hard to get to the balcony. they not charge any thing for get in, but they trying will hard to make you buy , by making you embarrass. the spectacle is very unique to see how they until today they still work like the old times. Tip: when you travel Morocco first thing you must know is every place that you will arrive, some one will come to help you, first they are very nice, but there interance is to take you not to the place that you need, they will take you to friends stores to buy and get the profit for them self. you will find after that the same thing in half price or even more. one example: someone offer us his help to get to El Fna he took us to his friend and offer us lamp in 2500 dirham, when we said that it's very expensive he took us to another friend and offer the same lamp in 150 dirham, finally we bought it at only 50 dirham!!!
