Bab Boujloud, Fes

4.0
#2 of 329 in Things to do in Fes
Take the picturesque entrance to the old quarter by passing through Bab Boujloud, a grand archway covered in blue mosaics. Built in 1913, the monumental gate was originally intended to provide protection for the medina; however, the advent of heavy artillery compromised its effectiveness, so it opted instead to intimidate with its attractiveness. The shimmering blue mosaic features floral patterns, geometric shapes, and calligraphy. Today, locals and tourists use this local landmark as a meeting place. • Bab Boujloud is an incredible sight on the edge of the medina. It's a tad junky inside the gate so I'm not sure I would have walked super far to see it, but our hotel was close so it was easy to visit...  more »
  • Looking around the city walls before entering the Médina through the bab boujloud - ok to see but nothing particularly special just something different to see.  more »
  • Fez lost anyway, so had to sign. I had also very close. Close the exchange offices.

  • There are a lot of good restaurants and interesting places around. However the gate itself is boring and the only thing you can do with it is take a picture. meh. We walked almost 1 hour looking for it because we thought it was more magnificent
  • this is the "main" gate to Fez Medina! and it's a great spot for your hotel! nearby you have ctm bus station and lots of coffee bar, restaurants, just everything! another important thing is.. you just need to say "blue gate" and every taxi driver knows it!
  • Entrance to Medina. One of many.Reportedly thr Largest Madina in the world
  • It's cool to see, knowing the significance of it. However, beyond a picture there's no specific activity here. It's flanked by a bunch of eateries. I recommend the Le Coin Des Artistes restaurant right outside the gate!! Good food, chill laid back and friendly vibes 😎
  • It is really a very attractive gate and worths visiting. I recommend it.
