Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
One of the largest mosques in the world, Hassan II Mosque is an impressive place of worship and a symbolic landmark of the city. Nearly 1,000 construction workers and 10,000 artists took nearly seven years to complete this structure, known for its highly decorated interior (viewable only as part of a guided tour), rich in Islamic artistic motifs, including geometric shapes and sections from the Quran. The 210 m (689 ft) tall minaret stands above the old town, while the main building looks out across the Atlantic Ocean. • Unfortunately, this Mosque was closed due to Covid-19, but just walking around the mosque was surreal. You don't realize just how large and intricate it is until you get up close.  more »
  • Incredibly beautiful! Definitely worth a visit, probably the only thing worth seeing in Casablanca. The mosque is huge, very impressive. It’s possible to walk around and take pictures. The decorations are stunning and it makes for wonderful pictures. A local told us that the mosque was not built in a stable piece of land and it is apparently sinking. Engineers are trying to do their best to prevent it from sinking, but no effective solution has been found yet. It’s also very nice to walk around the mosque, near the seaside.
  • I LOVED IT!!! It was beautiful. It has a beautiful look inside and outside. I liked the fountains on the floor under the mosque where you clean yourself. It is a very nice architecture. And it was a beautiful experience out there.
  • I believe this is the most visited place in Morocco and I can definitely see why. This mosque is massive and it's built with quality marble plates decorated very well. I enjoyed walking around and taking pictures. There is a massive square in-front of it, where many people can gather for busy ceremonies. It's beautiful to say the least, well worth the visit!!!
  • This is just amazing. We are a family of 6 from Australia and we hired a private guide off the Tours By Locals website by the name of Issam J. I would highly recommend him to show you around the mosque and Casablanca. He was the best guide we've ever had, and we've had many. Superb structure and the inside is even more impressive. A must see in Casablanca.
  • nice place, one of the largest mosque of the world. The walls are of hand-crafted marble and the roof is retractable. A maximum of 105,000 worshippers can gather together for prayer: 25,000 inside the mosque hall and another 80,000 on the mosque's outside ground. Due to the construction going on (2019/20), near the mosque it's difficult for the tourist to reach. although there are other ways to reach the mosque
