Monastery of Ostrog, Montenegro

(4.2/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Carved almost entirely into a mountain cliff and famoud for miraculous occurrences, Monastery of Ostrog serves as one of the world's most-visited Christian destinations. Founded in the 17th century, the site features an Orthodox monastery complex and chapels inside caves. See the Holy Trinity Church, with an interior covered in colorful paintings from top to bottom, and view the remains of 27 World War II soldiers in the Church of Saint Stanko the Martyr. Visit the Upper Church, which emerges out of a cliff and is a world-famous intercession site. The site houses vivid tile icons from 1655, a prayer book from 1732, and decorated candlesticks from 1779. • Ostrog (coordinates: N42° 40.552 ' E19° 01.713 ') from Podgorica, go in the direction of Nikšić (and Danilovgrad). Through 40 km turn right (Ostrog). Next, go on the narrow road along the serpentine mountain and up, with difficulty his oncoming cars. First approach to the lower monastery and the Church of St. Trinity, then go to the upper monastery and we reached the parking lot, to the monastery the Road blocked by shlakbaumom and pass a car with sick and pregnant women. From the parking lot (there's a decent toilet) climb the stone steps (15 min). Darken in mountainous terrain and in urban areas-"coils" sooner, after 8 pm, so you need to calculate the time until dark, otherwise in the mountains and no lighting on the serpentine will go is not very comfortable. We were in Sunday and hit on Sunday, evening service, which was held outdoors, opposite the monastery. There were many pilgrims Gypsy type mation on the street and they were handing out mattresses. In the monastery there was one available for the inspection of premises where there was cancer, with the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog. In the monastery there is a large shop with souvenirs and icons.
