Monastery of Ostrog, Montenegro
(4.2/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Carved almost entirely into a mountain cliff and famoud for miraculous occurrences, Monastery of Ostrog serves as one of the world's most-visited Christian destinations. Founded in the 17th century, the site features an Orthodox monastery complex and chapels inside caves. See the Holy Trinity Church, with an interior covered in colorful paintings from top to bottom, and view the remains of 27 World War II soldiers in the Church of Saint Stanko the Martyr. Visit the Upper Church, which emerges out of a cliff and is a world-famous intercession site. The site houses vivid tile icons from 1655, a prayer book from 1732, and decorated candlesticks from 1779. A visit to Monastery of Ostrog represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Niksic tour planner to plot your vacation.

  • My friends and I visited the Ostrog monastery! It was very interesting, we first raised on mountain serpentine (it was a bit scary, because barely can pass a few cars), but it was worth it Then we walked the steep stairs, but when I saw the monastery I was spellbound! The monastery itself is in grief, I am still thrilled and can't understand how you could do it. If you find yourself in Montenegro, then definitely come here! You won't regret it!

  • Definitely a nice place to visit. To road to get there is a little scary, but is nice with a beautiful view.
  • It is a monastery virtually carved into the rock, whose dazzling white from a distance to the point that is visible across the broad Valley along the road that runs far below. To get there the road becomes increasingly difficult and uncomfortable to the point that reached a parking lot below is better to walk. It is a place of faith, which houses the relics of Saint Basil. The Orthodox devoutly homage, in an environment of silence and awe. Inside are prohibited photographs. From there panoramic view over the whole valley.
