(4.8/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Climb to the top of , which offers bird's-eye views of the fjord and the Old Town from the height of 1,200 m (3937 ft). Together with the Old Town and its natural surroundings, the fortifications are listed as a World Heritage Site. The Illyrians, Byzantines, Venetians, and Austrians built the fortress between the ninth and 19th centuries. Take the main entrance near the River Gate and ask for a descriptive brochure identifying various towers, citadels, gates, bastions, forts, cisterns, and churches along the way. • The hike up is not easy and it definitely wouldn't pass safety inspections in the US, but its so worth it for the views at the top and throughout the hike up. The Bay of Kotor is truly one of the most...  more »
  • Would definitely go back again some may be hard to climb. I can't see anywhere in the landscape, you can see the blue sea and red roofs go up for a while after taking a break to have a simple snacks come down

  • Recurring to the walls of the fortress as seen in Montenegro several times. If you came to visit Kotor. The entrance is not expensive, sometimes even free. Stunning views of the Bay. The only complication-go along the path to the top of the stairs/-really far. The rise with young children we took about an hour and a half, bear had to be on hand. With sidecar Wade don't even try-would get annoyed her haul. Stock up on water and sun cream, if you go in summer. Early spring climbing more comfortable since it is not hot.
