Moraca Monastery, Kolasin

(4.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Moraca Monastery holds a copy of the original Oktoih--the first printed book of the southern Slavs in the Cyrillic alphabet from 1493. Look for the engraving above the Romanesque main portal, which testifies that Stefan Vukanovic, the Grand Prince of Zeta and the grandson of Stefan Nemanja, founded the monastery in 1252. The complex features two churches and lodgings for travelers. The 13th-century frescos in a chamber on the right side of the central apse illustrate 11 scenes from the life of the prophet Elijah. You also can see a mural depicting the prophet in the wilderness with a raven that is bringing him food. • Canyoning tour on the bus provided me bright impressions, emotions, fever in the body due to ChaCha, we nadigustirovalis' a lot, acquired delicious honey and different kinds of touch hot drink) but most of all I remember the place due to the nature of that open in these wonderful locations, multi-colored oblagorodnye apiaries, and, for the first time, I was lucky enough to see and breathe the fragrance of a flower naiprekrasnogo lemon tree that will remember forever. This monastery is very well maintained, many colors, clean air. The real rest for head and body! Murals in the temple and his story inspired! Remembered by old believer, like priest at the Church who gave me attention and enthusiastically told us about the details of the temple, because there were a lot of questions. Order in the monastery-head should be opened, but the female feet must be covered! Recommend!

  • This is one of two of best monastery in Montenegro, the other is Ostrog. A must to see if you are in area. Do not hesitate to visit to see the frescos and ortodox ikons.  more »

  • Small very beautiful Serbian Orthodox church with unusual frescoes and elaborate iconostasis. Look closely at the group frescoes because the stories portrayed are not the standardized ones from Greek Orthodox churches for example. Also check out small chapel on left off entrance/exit as you leave. Stories portrayed there are very different than anything I've seen in Russian or Greek Orthodox. Would have loved to have an explanation or brochure in English.
  • Brandy meets the quality if you buy honey, never bred. But in General, the place is beautiful. I advise you to look at.

  • I'm impressed. Maybe I saw a few monasteries, but this is simply amazing! The atmosphere of the surroundings, manicured yard with p′ânâŝami floral aromas and rich historical heritage is delight!
