Moraca Monastery, Kolasin

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 95 reviews on the web
Moraca Monastery holds a copy of the original Oktoih--the first printed book of the southern Slavs in the Cyrillic alphabet from 1493. Look for the engraving above the Romanesque main portal, which testifies that Stefan Vukanovic, the Grand Prince of Zeta and the grandson of Stefan Nemanja, founded the monastery in 1252. The complex features two churches and lodgings for travelers. The 13th-century frescos in a chamber on the right side of the central apse illustrate 11 scenes from the life of the prophet Elijah. You also can see a mural depicting the prophet in the wilderness with a raven that is bringing him food.
