Ostrog Monastery, Dabojevići

Must see · Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Church
Carved almost entirely into a mountain cliff and famoud for miraculous occurrences, Ostrog Monastery serves as one of the world's most-visited Christian destinations. Founded in the 17th century, the site features an Orthodox monastery complex and chapels inside caves. See the Holy Trinity Church, with an interior covered in colorful paintings from top to bottom, and view the remains of 27 World War II soldiers in the Church of Saint Stanko the Martyr. Visit the Upper Church, which emerges out of a cliff and is a world-famous intercession site. The site houses vivid tile icons from 1655, a prayer book from 1732, and decorated candlesticks from 1779. • In terms of presentation, architecture and culture, the Ostrog Monastery is a must-visit. Access is limited by a narrow, winding and sometimes scary road with an increasing number of hairpin turns...  more »
  • A place which you just have to see with your own eyes to believe it truly exists. Truly epic. Loved the chapel edged on the cliff.  more »
  • Amazing structure. Incredibly beautiful. Road is fairly okay going up providing you have experience on small roads. Wouldn’t say there was absolutely loads to do at the monastery. However, we spent a good 30 minutes here walking around and taking in the views. Parking is right at the top with overflow further down. No photography allowed inside the monastery. Although it is free to enter.
  • Situated among the mountains in the very heart of Montenegro and very accessible to reach through the good quality roads. Its not only a religeous pilgrimage place, but also part of the human history that people worth/ have to visit during their life.
  • Beautiful and calm place for you soul and mind.
  • wowed by the incomprehensible dedication and skill involved in the monastery’s construction, and by the stunning natural beauty, tranquility, and remoteness of its location.
  • It is not such an impressive monastery, I've seen more interesting monasteriesin Greece, but it does have some interesting frescoes on the cave walls, and the view is incredible - maybe that fact the I was there in the rain somewhat influenced my negative opinion. Perhaps if it wasn't raining I would have chosen to walk the stairs for a more complete experience.
