Ostrog Monastery, Dabojevici

4.4
Carved almost entirely into a mountain cliff and famoud for miraculous occurrences, Ostrog Monastery serves as one of the world's most-visited Christian destinations. Founded in the 17th century, the site features an Orthodox monastery complex and chapels inside caves. See the Holy Trinity Church, with an interior covered in colorful paintings from top to bottom, and view the remains of 27 World War II soldiers in the Church of Saint Stanko the Martyr. Visit the Upper Church, which emerges out of a cliff and is a world-famous intercession site. The site houses vivid tile icons from 1655, a prayer book from 1732, and decorated candlesticks from 1779. • Everyone will get from this place what they come here for. Believers will receive the peace and blessing of St. Basil of Ostrog, healing physical and spiritual, skeptics and atheists - stunning views and admiration for the creation of human hands - the white monastery in the rock causes genuine surprise and faith in help God in the construction of an incredible temple. Be sure to go yourself or with a very small excursion, on a weekday, in the afternoon (when there are no big tourist buses). It's better in the off-season, oh...

  • It's really impressive to see up close how and where the monastery is located. Don't be scared by the road leading to it, it's not bad actually. You can drive all the way up to the Upper monastery, bu...  more »

  • I'm not religious but there is not a lot to see. It's a long way up, first by car and then on foot and there is always a lot of traffic. The place is very small and no one will explain you anything. Nice view on the panorama and from the outside.
  • I can’t believe that you can actually review this place Lol Okay then, I give it 6 stars if I could! Its not a tourist attraction. Go there with an open mind and see how you feel.
  • An anthropologically unique religious site. It is important to understand the behavior of believers arriving at the site. But no less so is the path to a site that passes through a magnificent landscape.
  • Definitely a sacred place to be seen. If you need a miracle, it's definitely worth trying... it worked for one if my friend and apparently many others :)
  • It looks better on the outside than on the inside. The view from there is extraordinary however and the road a challenge.
