Citadela Fortress, Budva

4.2
The city's medieval castle, Citadela Fortress stands at the highest point in the area and is one of the most structurally significant medieval monuments in Montenegro. Unlike most fortifications, this citadel stands entirely on its own. Within its walls also lie the ruins of Saint Mary's church and the fort's bastions. Climb up to get superb views of Budva's beaches, houses, and hills, and have a drink or a local dish at the restaurant on the terrace. Check out the gallery at the site, which showcases books and maps of the Balkan Peninsula. Put Citadela Fortress at the forefront of your travel plans using our Budva trip builder .

All compactly enough, if not linger at the Cafe inside, the entire inspection takes 5 minutes. But it will be interesting for 5 min

Great view over the near island and the sea. Small library is also there to visit, and a great place to sit and cool down from the summer sun.

Where to stay in Budva

One of the prime tourist destinations on the Montenegrin coast, the city of Budva offers visitors numerous accommodations of all types. While those looking for luxury can opt for high-end hotels, lavishly decorated apartments, or seaside villas, travelers on a budget have a good choice of more affordable places to stay. These include a solid selection of hostels, boutique hotels, and self-catering lodgings. For the best scenery in the city, head to Budva’s historical old town: while accommodations here tend to be more expensive than in other areas, it’s the perfect spot for those who want quick access to the major sights, as well as cafes, restaurants, and bars. That said, it might not be the best neighborhood for those looking for more tranquil surroundings, especially at the peak of the summer season.
