Citadel, Budva
(3.9/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
The city's medieval castle, Citadel stands at the highest point in the area and is one of the most structurally significant medieval monuments in Montenegro. Unlike most fortifications, this citadel stands entirely on its own. Within its walls also lie the ruins of Saint Mary's church and the fort's bastions. Climb up to get superb views of Budva's beaches, houses, and hills, and have a drink or a local dish at the restaurant on the terrace. Check out the gallery at the site, which showcases books and maps of the Balkan Peninsula. Using our world travel planner, Budva attractions like Citadel can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Very tourist spot, in the worst sense: restaurants, shops at every turn, benches ... Absolutely no desire arose to come here again.

  • We visited the citadel by night and it was a very beautiful view over the city and the sea. I would recommend it to visit by night.
  • I've been exploring the old town of Budva which is lovely & decided to visit the Citadel. The 360 views are jaw dropping. Such a beautiful place.
