Zaisan Memorial, Ulaanbaatar

(300+ reviews on the web)
Monument
Pay tribute to the largest movement of motorized troops in the history of warfare at Zaisan Memorial, a monumental concrete sculpture perched on the top of a hill. A Soviet T34 tank mounted on a concrete pedestal commemorates the efforts of the World War II Mongolia People's Tank Brigade, which covered the distance from Moscow to Berlin. At the 360-degree observation deck, a concrete memorial in the shape of a colossal proletarian flag towers over a large curved mural depicting friendship between the peoples of the USSR and Mongolia. • This is well worth the climb! Great views across the city- and a fabulous story to be told by the Mural at the top.  more »
  • The view from the Zaisan Memorial is great but there are about 300 steps you have to climb to get to the top. There are resting stages along the way for the faint of heart. From the top you get a grea...  more »

  • It take some time to climb up, but the view is stunning: you can see all the 4 power plants in Ulaanbaatar!
  • Long walk to reach the top but at the endvthe best view in UB
  • I am usually not into memorials when traveling, but has a really nice view and definitively worth a taxi ride here
  • I was there in winter so it was was very quiet, but needed a clean. Not much going on up up there but there's a great view over the city
  • Great view of the city. The monument itself is rather interesting, but not necessarily amazing unless you are a huge fan of history - even then, it seems somewhat "meh". Still, definitely worth the climb for the view, and during the summer there is usually a man with an eagle you can hold and get pictures with.
