Zaisan Memorial, Ulaanbaatar

Categories: Monuments, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.9/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web
Pay tribute to the largest movement of motorized troops in the history of warfare at Zaisan Memorial, a monumental concrete sculpture perched on the top of a hill. A Soviet T34 tank mounted on a concrete pedestal commemorates the efforts of the World War II Mongolia People's Tank Brigade, which covered the distance from Moscow to Berlin. At the 360-degree observation deck, a concrete memorial in the shape of a colossal proletarian flag towers over a large curved mural depicting friendship between the peoples of the USSR and Mongolia. • On a hill overlooking the city centre, there are staple parts of the city. This time I stopped by in sightseeing tours of the city. Parking is located under the stairs and went up the stairs from there. Excellent views from here and made rounds to the top of the monument. There was no persistence, tourist vendors like there was a grace, a halfway up the stairs, a postcard souvenir seller.

  • The locals believe that Ulaanbatar is guarded by four mountains that take care of their wealth, health, intelligence (forgot another on). You can see all the mountains clearly from this memorial.
  • 在冬宫再往南1.5公里,也是坐7路就可以到,参观完冬宫走过去也行。不要门票,在一个小山顶上,可以看乌兰巴托全景,还是可以的。
  • Love the Zaisan Memorial mainly for the view and it is a challenge to go up the stairs. There are few refreshment and little hand painted crafts on the way but most enjoyable thing is the view at the top. Be careful when to go though as weather conditions play a huge part in your experience and I recommend the warm spring summer and autumn days. Not great for winter, rain of other conditions you don't like.
  • First visit was during 2001. Visited again in 2011. Spectacular views of the surrounding area - steep climb up loads of steps!! Worth it!
  • Nice view, but it would be more pleasant if someone could collect garbage.
  • Best city view
  • A striking memorial to Russian influence over Mongolia and the shared experience of the (to the Soviets/Russians) Great Patriotic War. Sadly, the Soviet battle tank down the hill is now surrounded by a new hotel/resort complex which is under construction and, in due course, this will block much of the panorama northwards across UB from the Zaisan memorial.
