Zaisan Memorial, Ulaanbaatar

Monument Landmark
Pay tribute to the largest movement of motorized troops in the history of warfare at Zaisan Memorial, a monumental concrete sculpture perched on the top of a hill. A Soviet T34 tank mounted on a concrete pedestal commemorates the efforts of the World War II Mongolia People's Tank Brigade, which covered the distance from Moscow to Berlin. At the 360-degree observation deck, a concrete memorial in the shape of a colossal proletarian flag towers over a large curved mural depicting friendship between the peoples of the USSR and Mongolia. • Located on the outskirts of Ulan Bator. Overlooking the city from there, feels so good. Here is Socialist propaganda murals is that treatment was in Japan and Germany, but interesting. This is also in the Ulaanbaatar luxury residential high-rise housing a beautiful construction in, it may be fun to see it, or how to evolve. At the entrance to Kazakh falconers took was the Hawk. Shiku, looking good.

  • The point of climbing up to the Zaisan Memorial used to be the amazing view, 360 degrees, all around UB. But lack of zoning constraints has allowed bulding that blocks that view. My friends in UB all ...  more »

Where to stay in Ulaanbaatar

The capital city of Ulaanbaatar doesn't disappoint when it comes to its choice of accommodations, with a range of styles and types to choose from. The usual place to look lies to the northeast of the main train station, in the central district that surrounds Chinggis Khaan Square. Luxury and non-luxury chain hotels, some storied older hotels, and a variety of fairly standard options abound across this central district, close to the main urban attractions. Dotted throughout are a number of guesthouses, providing value for money mid-range and budget options, including some offering shared "gers" (traditional Mongolian sleeping tents).
