Examine a vast collection of Mongolian cultural, archaeological, and scientific artifacts at National History Museum. Since its establishment in 1924, many Russian and American scholars have contributed to expanding and merging the ethnographical, historical, and archaeological departments of Mongolia, systematically preserving the nation's cultural heritage. As you roam the corridors, you can observe many interesting exhibits, such as dinosaur skeletons from the Gobi desert, volcano stones and meteorites, botany and animal life samples, and traditional garments. Each showcase has labels in Mongolian and English; you can also purchase a guidebook to learn about the museum's content more thoroughly. One of the best places you must visit. The findings are fantastic. All the information is in both English and Mongolian; a handy translator device was available to use.

The Zanabazar museum proved more interesting. This museum is fine, but one whole floor is devoted to very recent history. If you want to take photos you have to pay twice- ensure you have the photo...

Pretty disappointing all things considered. We had some time to kill in UB and wanted to see some fossils. Mongolia has a huge rich history in terms of dinosaurs and fossils so was expecting a pretty decent showing. They had 3 or 4 really cool fossils and a full skeleton of one of the distant relatives of the T-rex which was nice, but as for the rest of it, it's pretty poor. I mean in the main hall, it seems like there's more meteorites than fossils. Make sure you go on the first floor to see the big skeleton. We almost bailed after two minutes and would have missed it otherwise. There's some taxidermy there which is a little odd, and a cabinet full of dead birds which frankly, is just weird. I'm a seasoned traveller, so wasn't expecting the Natural History Museum or the Met etc, but felt this could have been done a lot better. Some of the signs (not all) are in English, but you need to cross the rope to actually read them. So if you're not in the mood to grapple with security, take a pair of binoculars.

Very interesting displays on Mongolian history and culture. Incredibly old grave costumes from Back to the time of Christ.

Nice museum of 10,000 MNT to enter, and good way to spend an hour or two to learn about the history of Mongolia...

Not bad.... But nothing special! We did it because it was raining!
-
Incredible museum. So many examples of Mongolian culture, traditions, tribal culture and so much more. If you’re looking to get some context then this place is a must!
