Gandantegchenling Monastery, Ulaanbaatar
(3.7/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
Visit a revitalized and restored Tibetan-style Buddhist compound at Gandantegchenling Monastery. Home to more than 150 monks, the suburban monastery features a residential area for religious practitioners, ornate temples, teaching centers, and a 26.5 m (87 ft) copper statue of Avalokitesvara adorned with 2,286 gems and precious stones. Although the temple escaped Stalin's mass destruction of religious institutions, worship restrictions remained in place until 1990, the end of Marxism in Mongolia. • Gandan Monastery is the center of religious and spiritual unity of Mongolia! There are all the most important and significant spiritual activities, here come the Dalai Lama and other teachers. Supreme hamb-Lama monastery for many years, Mr Chojzhamc-a very wise and dear people! When his age more than 60 years, he's touching and tender mom son. In the monastery there are many places and objects, Buddhists, continuously goes. And the monastery develops. Recently there was a new educational complex Buddhist Academy-Seminary. There is a library at the monastery with old manuscripts, more than a million copies! Some are decorated with gold, silver and precious stones. There are even written in the blood of the monks! Om mani padme hum! Let there be peace in your home!

  • What is left of the monastery complex is beautiful. Also interesting is the wishing tree outside the building, and my kids enjoyed feeding the doves around the entrance of the complex.
  • A large area of the monastery, is located almost in the center of Ulan Bator. Around the monastery, at the same time, modern high-rise buildings, cars ... and immediately the yurt in which indigenous people live and their goats, camels, horses. Monks in Orange clothes, thousands of doves and dozens of shops with souvenirs for tourists. I recommend to buy as a souvenir "singing vase". Select the sound that you most enjoy. Similar in appearance, sound differently.
