Specialty Museum Museum
Take a close look at the 3 m (10 ft) tall skeleton of Tyrannosaurus Rex’s Mongolian cousin, Tarbosaurus bataar at Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs. This small museum features 16 skeletal remains of dinosaurs excavated in the territory of modern-day Mongolia. Observe life-sized models of various dinosaurs and learn about their life at lectures. Other exhibits feature various raptors and a nest of oviraptor eggs. The prime exhibit was taken from the country's vast fossil and skeletal heritage and returned to the country after a legal battle in the U.S. A visit to Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Ulaanbaatar tourist route planner to plot your vacation.

Where to stay in Ulaanbaatar

The capital city of Ulaanbaatar doesn't disappoint when it comes to its choice of accommodations, with a range of styles and types to choose from. The usual place to look lies to the northeast of the main train station, in the central district that surrounds Chinggis Khaan Square. Luxury and non-luxury chain hotels, some storied older hotels, and a variety of fairly standard options abound across this central district, close to the main urban attractions. Dotted throughout are a number of guesthouses, providing value for money mid-range and budget options, including some offering shared "gers" (traditional Mongolian sleeping tents).

  • If you are interested in dinosaurs, this is one place to visit. For a small fee, I would recommend paying for photo-taking and a tour guide. Our tour-guide, Boogie was very helpful and her explanation...  more »
  • This is not a big museum - but it is well lit, and curated. The guide who is free with an expected / accepted /appreciated tip is very well versed in why their admittedly few items are important. Easy...  more »
  • Low cost, but it is too small to be called a museum. There's info on about 5 dinosaurs and that's it. There is info, and it is good, in english... but not enough Just too small  more »

  • Hidden gem. A small but interesting collection of dinosours skeletons. Interesting history behind Mongolia getting that fossils back from American expeditions. There are plans to make the museum even bigger.
  • This place couldn't be a bigger pile of dino dung. I was so excited to see this place and was so let down, there are a total of 5 piles of bone. Mostly either fake looking, or un covered from the hunk of soil they were buried in. Save your money and go to the national museum where they have hours of information on Mongolia with thousands of artifacts.
  • Entry fee required, adult 3000, student 1000. You are not allowed to take photos -sigh- unless you pay 30000...
  • Very small but if you need to kill 30 mins and want to learn something about dinosaur bones, this place has you covered. The displays have English and are well done. It is just very small so be prepared.
  • The smallest muzeum I have ever been to, nonetheless probably the best dinosaurs one. Spent like 30 min there
