4.7/5 based on 35 reviews on the web
Enjoy pristine nature at Khovsgol Nuur, one of the clearest lakes in the world and the largest lake in Mongolia. Known as the "Dark Blue Pearl of Mongolia," this ancient 125 km (78 mi) long lake stands at the foot of the Sayan Mountains, close to the Russian border. Surrounded by the Khoridol Saridag mountains rising to 3,093 m (10,148 ft), the lake serves as a transition zone between steppe and taiga landscape. You can rent fishing gear and try to catch some perch, burbot, lenok, salmon and sturgeon. The endangered and endemic Havsgol grayling also inhabits the lake. If you don't want to go fishing yourself, you can buy fish from local markets and have a barbecue. Take a boat trip to Cormorant Island, enjoying the clarity of the water and the wildlife that thrives in it. • I have never ever seen a lake that clear. n a good day you can see the ground up to 40m deep. I is certainly a must see when you are in Mongolia
  • A Lake of rare beauty, lost in the middle of the mountains, the Plains and forests. Spread over 140km to the South of the Russia, the track to access the inside of the Mongolia is difficult to access (especially in rainy weather). However, the scenery is grandiose.
