(4.2/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Explore the ruins of Karakorum (Kharkhorin), the ancient capital of the Mongol empire and part of the Orkhon Valley World Heritage Site. The town reached its peak in the 13th and 14th centuries, used by Genghis Khan as a base for his army and later expanded by his son, Ogodei. • Somon (administrative unit of Mongolia), interesting no-Kharkhorin settlement, where there is a monument to the old Soviet DT-54 and started iron fence whether House of culture, whether in administration or school. 800 years ago Kharkhorin or as it was called, Karakorum was the most significant city of the Mongol Empire. Now, however, the Karakoram is a field with hills, under which buried the city of great Mongols. According to legend, four stone turtles were located on the corners of ancient Karakorum. Karakoram resembles that of afrosiab in Samarkand. Modern Mongolians sell ancient artifacts (arrowheads, coins, pottery, ceramics, candlesticks), which are on the territory of the ancient city, for funny money.
