Jardin des animalier, Monte-Carlo

(140+ reviews on the web)
Zoo / Aquarium
Although small, Jardin des animalier carries a wide array of exotic animals from around the globe. Founded by Prince Rainier III in 1954, the zoo houses more than 50 species and over 250 individual animals. An good place to bring the kids, the zoo features reptiles, apes, monkeys, and exotic birds. Of particular interest are the hippopotamus, the black panther (one of Africa's deadliest animals), and the white tiger, a rare variation of the classic orange Bengal tiger. When you visit the zoo, take the time to feed the kangaroos for a small additional charge. • What a depressing place. So many cramped cages, and tired looking animals. This has put me, my wife, and our young son off zoos for life.
  • Very nice place. Worth visit. Lot of different animals and you can feed then with clean popcorn they sell at the entrance :)
  • This animal exhibition is so terrible that it can only be through an act of sustained malevolent purpose than pure accident or random chance. Of our time within Jardin Anamalier, we visited a plethora of depressed animals that loathed their lack of fingers, thumbs, and a loaded gun. Guinea Pig enclosures that were carpeted by overbreeding; Tortoise enclosures featured a drowned animal, while the second tortoise was being bashed upon by the Wallabies next door with a fruitbowl; and the Hippo had two options: swim in its own waste or laze on the concrete surrounding it. All exhibits were hugely overcrowded, particularly the birdcages. No attempt was made at recreating natural habitats of the animals (rainbow lorikeets given cacti to perch upon), nor did it seem like any attempt at cleaning the cages was done in a fortnight. It was insulting to see national animals suffering in terrible conditions, and it was telling the way that such a rich city treats its animals.
  • Interesting. A lot of animals not seen in my life before.
  • CRUEL!!!!! Poor hippo at this zoo had no room to move! Sun beating down on its back day in day out!! Only way I can describe it is to imagen a severely overweight man stuck in a bath tub. This should NOT be allowed!! why is this poor animals life less important then ours. Don't visit here this zoo should be closed down.
