Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Monaco-Ville

4.4
#2 of 19 in Things to do in Monaco-Ville
A Roman Catholic cathedral and burial place of the country's royalty, Saint Nicholas Cathedral exudes a sense of hushed solemnity amidst shining marble floors and delicate frescoes. Constructed on the site of Monaco's first parish church, which was built in 1252, the cathedral was consecrated in 1875. An ornate and light-filled building, this cathedral was the site of both the wedding and the burial of the celebrated Grace Kelly, who married Prince Rainier III here in 1956. Take some time to walk around the cathedral and visit the chapels of the relics of St. Devote and St. Roman and the chapel of the Holy Sacrament. • So this is a cathedral? Sorry to say, but I'm from Antwerp and I have the coolest cathedral . This one does not reflect the cathedral look and feel. But you will visit it, because it is loaded with hi...  more »
  • Monaco gives for more than one day if several of its sites are visited. This access is free, or at least a good part of their areas. It is small, with a view to the sea, and not excessively monumental, but as all Monaco, it's all so clean and so perfect it seems tale. Here Grace and Rainier were married, and here are entrerados. Contains this very close to the Oceanographic and the Palace, so visit them together.

  • Beautiful Cathedral in the heart of old Monaco, perched on the rock. Beautiful pieces of art in the Cathedral as the altarpiece of St. Nicholas. The tour of the heart is adorned with the tombs of different princes like the last two with the prince Renier and Princess Grace.

  • A nice surprise to the day excursion from the cruise ship. We were lucky to be there early enough to see the interior of the church without so much hassle. No entrance fees too...a rarity among the tourist spots. Considering it is also the resting place of the late Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco. I was surprised to see how simple it was.
  • Very beautiful Architektur and good looked after. There is no entrance fee[08.2017]!
  • Modern cathedral with the Grimaldi family graves, including Grace Kelly.
  • Esquisite ! NB : I got bonus when I visited this cathedral. Take more steps down to the Southwest (walk along the zebracross) and you can find a "hidden gem" (read: breathtaking view) of Mediterranean Sea
  • Beautiful and majestic. Incredibly beautiful architecture.
