Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Monaco-Ville

4.4
#2 of 19 in Things to do in Monaco-Ville
A Roman Catholic cathedral and burial place of the country's royalty, Saint Nicholas Cathedral exudes a sense of hushed solemnity amidst shining marble floors and delicate frescoes. Constructed on the site of Monaco's first parish church, which was built in 1252, the cathedral was consecrated in 1875. An ornate and light-filled building, this cathedral was the site of both the wedding and the burial of the celebrated Grace Kelly, who married Prince Rainier III here in 1956. Take some time to walk around the cathedral and visit the chapels of the relics of St. Devote and St. Roman and the chapel of the Holy Sacrament. • St. Nicholas Cathedral is located near the other important sights. So, you go through it if you walk away with a map to location.

  • Don't miss to visit the Cathedral. Every time we go in the Principality, is required to make a "tour". Great facility, the Interior is excellent, one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. Take a tour of 10/15 minutes ... well worth the trip. You can also see the tombs of Rainier and Grace Kelly. Beautiful Christmas Nativity scenes exhibited just walked on the left.

  • A nice surprise to the day excursion from the cruise ship. We were lucky to be there early enough to see the interior of the church without so much hassle. No entrance fees too...a rarity among the tourist spots. Considering it is also the resting place of the late Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco. I was surprised to see how simple it was.
  • Very beautiful Architektur and good looked after. There is no entrance fee[08.2017]!
  • Modern cathedral with the Grimaldi family graves, including Grace Kelly.
  • Esquisite ! NB : I got bonus when I visited this cathedral. Take more steps down to the Southwest (walk along the zebracross) and you can find a "hidden gem" (read: breathtaking view) of Mediterranean Sea
  • Beautiful and majestic. Incredibly beautiful architecture.

Where to stay in Monaco-Ville

The quiet, pedestrianized streets of Monaco-Ville house many historic buildings, bars, and restaurants, but little by way of accommodations. You can possibly find some apartment rentals in this old center of town, but little else. Most visitors stay up in Monte Carlo, or down in Fontvieille.
