Prince's Palace (Palais du Prince), Monaco-Ville

Categories: Architectural Buildings, Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
Take an audio tour of Prince's Palace (Palais du Prince), occupied for more than 700 years by the ruling Grimaldi family. Built on the site of an 1191 Genoese fortress, the palace is still well fortified--it was frequently besieged over the centuries by Monaco’s larger and more powerful neighbors. Imposing from the outside, the royal family's only residence also displays wealth and opulence in its interior, furnished in the style of Louis XIV. Explore the state apartments, where you can see intricately painted 16th-century frescoes of mythological figures, and see the throne, draped with a red velvet awning and topped by the crown. The palace is only open to the public for a few months a year, so check the website for details. • Too short... lack of cartels of explanations. The audio guides are good but with little information

  • Please be noticed that we only saw it from the outside--- The view from the hill and the way up are quite nice. The entire place looks neat and clean as is the entire state. Police presence everywhere...  read more »
  • You made that visit 4 to 5 pieces that trace the life of the Palace at the time of the Kings. One painting of the Royal family of Monaco of our day. It's a shame because to see the life of Kings it is at the Palace of Versailles which is perfect. Disappointed with the visit for this can and the price is expensive.

  • This is where the iconic cityline shots of Monaco come from. I heard there's some escalator going up, but the walk isn't too strenuous and at the top you are greeted with the guarded Prince's palace. There is plenty of space to relax, take in the view or snap a photo and there are also some food shops around. Must visit!
  • Very nice tour of the castle but rather short. I understand that it is an active residence, but from the outside I have to admit that I would have expected the tour to last longer. Other than that, the explanation headset is very good, giving loads of information. The only downside is that you can't take any pictures while inside the palace.
  • We had an awful experience in this place. They let individuals wait over 30 minutes while they let groups get in first. Security takes for ever so we had to wait over 30 minutes. I ended up leaving the lineup and threw my ticket away!
  • Nothing to grand about this palace, but it still is a pretty unique experience. You can watch the guard march back in forth in front and enjoy a café at a nearby shoppe. I'm conflicted on whether it was worth the long hike up, but the charming little side streets at the top made it worth the effort.
  • Lovely palace , only seen it from the outside. You must be there for the changing of the guard. Very good well worth watching . Lovely views from the top.
