  • Lots of great history to see. They take donations to operate, very good well done. The staff can offer all kinds of information on area and history.  more »
  • If good the Archaeological Museum of the large coast has only 6 small exhibition halls, no longer interesting to visit it. The entrance fee is very affordable only $10.00 pesos, the staff is very friendly and all rooms explore them in around Central magnificent of 20 minutes. Each room has a description in broad terms of the samples that are on display. Struck me see in a corner of the courtyard of the Museum, which was a film projector of the Decade of the 30's, and opposite a machine write 70´s. hopefully the local authorities worry about enriching the museum displays. In general felt me good and the facilities in good condition in general.

  • I was out of mere curiosity, costs 10 pesos and friendly staff even though he wasn't at the front desk when you arrive, I charged after leaving the second room. It has well-preserved parts but as there are so many visitors rooms have the air conditioning off and are too hot. Are the conditions to improve.

  • Newer museum showcasing nearby archaeological find. I suggest taking a tour of this with Luis de la Maza. He picks you up at your hotel in an air conditioned van. No driving needed on back country roads! He is an excellent English speaking Zihuatanejo native and explains the history and interprets all of the Spanish information display panels- as they are only in Spanish. After the museum and ruins, on his tour you have a chance to visit a nearby villager’s home with a typical kitchen, tile floor and garden. He then takes you on a boat trip on a lovely mangrove lined lagoon to see pelicans, frigates and other native birds. Finally a lovely lunch under a shady palm frond covered patio. I had the garlic shrimp! Excellent food, no worries about food prep, super clean and fresh!!
  • Nice small musuem. Donation only. The gentleman running the place is extremely nice and funny. Not worth a special trip, but if in the area do see it.
  • Omar is the manager of the museum. Nice guy and goes out of his way to make sure you have a great time.
  • Great place, information and enough but is not big. Do not charge much input. It is simple and informative, neither more nor less.

Where to stay in Zihuatanejo

Look in the narrow streets of the historic center to find a range of affordable, colorful "posadas" (inns), or head uphill to Cerro del Almacen for comfortable condos offering sweeping views over the water. If the larger luxury hotels appeal, cast your eye east of the river to find lavish resorts lining the town's most desirable beaches.
