Mina El Eden, Zacatecas

Tourist Spot Mine
Just 10 minutes from the scenic city center, Mina El Eden, serves as one of the most important sites of the colonial history of the mining town. The mine operated from the late 16th century until 1960; then it was reopened as an attraction in 1975. Step back in time as a train takes you to the center of the underground mining site, where you can see where the gold and silver ore was extracted. You'll see an array of minerals in the museum. A nightclub now operates in the former grinding vault of the mine, which you can access by riding the small train 610 m (2,000 ft) underground. • During the day they have tours of the mine which are so fun and at night they have a dance club!! We weren't able to go back for the club but it's on my bucket list for sure.  more »
  • We were two couples, and we all really enjoyed the tour. We very much appreciated the guide who spoke English for us!  more »
  • It is interesting the way mines worked in the 16th century. The rock museum is nice. The guided tour is very funny and entertained (not sure if there are in English).  more »

  • This is a must-do if you are visiting Zacatecas. Very interesting to get to go into an underground mine. There are two entrances, both are within walking distance of the centro. I'd recommend going to the one by the Alameda because you get to enter via train whereas the other entrance is by elevator. The price is $100 MXN for an adult. Be sure to ask for an English guide because the Spanish tour guide spoke really quickly - a bit above my ability to follow him as an intermediate-level Spanish speaker. On weekend nights the mine opens as a club/bar - looked pretty cool.
  • The mine is great. The actual bar is extremely expensive, the service is terrible to say the least, the waiters are rude and take away your menus even if you are using them without a warning, unless you come in with a bigger group than 3 people they will put you against a wall without being able to face towards the center, the music is not even close to what they publicize, and most of the drinks are watered down.
  • Great place to go too. A lot to see and a lot to learn about the history of the mine. The experience was amazing seeing beautiful geological features. I would definitely go again!
  • This is a great experience and should go if you are in Zacatecas!
  • As a geology student I loved this place.
