Lake Bacalar, Yucatan Peninsula

4.8
Take a refreshing dip in the pristine waters of Lake Bacalar. The long and narrow lake, which is approximately 42 km (26 mi) long and just under 2 km (1.2 mi) wide, is renowned for its water that changes color throughout the day. It has a white limestone floor and feeds from water that originates from underground rivers and cenotes. Head to the western shore of the lake to find the village of Bacalar, which was a city of the Maya civilization during Pre-Columbian times. • Water crystal clear and free of algae (which have been present for weeks on the costa Maya), a place where life flows slow and quiet far from the traditional tourist destinations

  • I documented and I knew that you could not do a half-day stopover and via, so I stayed there 2 nights. If you'd spend 5-6 gioprni back because Calandrino gets him and truly heaven on Earth. Crystal clear water, sweet but light for a swimming effortlessly, never move and devoid of algae that can be found recently on the riviera Maya and the 7 beautiful colors that the day brings (Sun permitting). White sand, thanks to the deposition of calcium carbonate carried by the underground river that feeds into the lagoon, and in many shallow area for several metres. If you book before the accommodation, being a place out of mass tour circuit (thank goodness) and has no big hotels. The Centre is small but friendly's has everything you need, especially.

  • Doesn't get much more perfect then this place for our family of two boys (1&2). It's affordable, safe and the most beautiful lake in Mexico almost at the border of Belize. An incredible day for those wishing to travel outside the normal places along the yukatan peninsula.
