It is a traditional working henequén hacienda was active until the Decade of the eighties of the last century. We visited her when we were returning from Uxmal (heading to Merida). The visit is worth much for different reasons. The first is its conservation status. You can visit the House and workshops, covering a large area. The House is in the process of library and we had the opportunity to talk to the teacher who is in charge of the process. He was very friendly and gave us many details about the work of restoration. The entrance costs 100 pesos (kids are free). While the price may seem high, worth the visit. There is the option of hiring a guide service (one pay what you want), although the brochure that give to the entrance one can defend as well as the history of the place, it contains a map of the estate.

It took some getting drive back to the hacienda in the village. It is now a museum, but she was active until 1984. The was processed into hemp, sisal and agave tequila. Hey old machines are still there. The garden is beautifully landscaped.

This hacienda has all the potential to make it a must visit. Some parts have been renovated, but unfortunately a lot remains to be done. We have not received explanations if not a small leaflet, but in french: Nice try. A beautiful atmosphere emerges from this place, a bit slow, as a stop in the past. I wish I could go back in time and see renovations.

Visited with the guide Don Guadalupe Tun, the stories and explanations he gives you will help you to understand the value of the place. His family worked there since the beginning.

Very beautiful. There are gardens, old factories, Mayan artifacts, and a giant old house you can go through. The gardens are beautiful.

This Hacienda was establish in the 19th century and was used to grow and process henequen, know also as Sisal. I was used to make ropes before nylon came along and was a large and important industry in Mexico at the time. The place is a strange combination of wealthy living and an industrial complex. It is a photographer's dream with so many colours and shapes. Give yourself lots of time. The staff there were great. We drove, but you probably easily get a bus from Merida.
