  • Our accommodation host booked us a cab from Valle De Bravo...550 pesos return (he waited for us in the car park). We opted to walk up, and I did wonder if this was a mistake because the first 10-15 mi...  more »
  • We arrived at the shrine around 3:30 PM. Upon arrival, we had to ask where was the box office, because the signs are conspicuous by their absence. At the box office they indicate us agrupáramos to the center of the camp, where some flags. We got there and there was no guide and no charge. We had to be asking to find a guide, as they are scarce for those who carry a vest to identify (the vast majority do not bring any badge or identification). After several minutes, they told us to reach to the group that he had just come out, which cost us some effort since from the start the sidewalk has a tilt (and that my spouse and I tend to run on a regular basis). After 800 meters walking, we reached a break. The guide that we would hope that horses arrived by 4 of the visitors who no longer endured to follow, and we continue the rise with another guide of name Carlos (the only one we saw with vest, by the way). Arriving at the 3100 meters of altitude, we began to move along a more or less flat trail, with much litter. But, since the volume of visitors was so much, it took us to advance the last 250 meters almost an hour. After that ordeal, we reached the end zone watching, where we could appreciate around 10 butterflies within walking distance (even centimeters), but the bulk of the monarchs were in the tops of trees nearby, about 30 meters away. In short, the place is clean and well kept. But everything is completely disorganized. The ejidatarios are more concerned in charge tickets and rent their horses than in visitors to really enjoy your visit. Admission for adults is $60, and the income from horse to raise $200. Note: Horses do not arrive until the final path, so in any way will have to walk at least 600 meters. My recommendations: If, like us, are going to Valle de Bravo and want to take advantage of the proximity of the sanctuary, arrive early (maximum at 11 AM). This so can better appreciate the butterflies flying (the butterflies fly when it gets hotter, from 11 AM to 2 PM). After 2 PM they begin to "cuddle up" in the treetops to rest. In addition, most reach the sanctuary after 1 PM. If you want to see better and more butterflies, better find a sanctuary in Michoacan, near Zitacuaro. Stone Herrada being the only sanctuary in the State of Mexico, it is on the banks of the area's butterfly migration and the number of them is less. Consider that the rise is 265 metres above sea level, walking about a kilometer and a half, only from ida.

  • The truth my expectation was higher I already had been in Angangeo Mich. the show was wonderful and now wanted to take my children to a nearest the big problem was that butterflies were placed in a different place that complicated every year and access everything almost unseen clusters on the trees because they are on one canada is ma s not worth uploading time more butterflies down on the Esplanade that yes a lot of people by what the ascent becomes heavy because you do not advance. If you want to really see a shrine I think it would be better to go to another
