Convent de San Bernardino de Siena, Valladolid
(4.3/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Convent de San Bernardino de Siena stands as Xochimilco's cultural and historic center. An old parish church built in the 16th century over a pre-Hispanic temple, the convent features a simple beige stone wall façade, long corridors of thick arches, and a grass courtyard. Inside stands a towering altar lavished in gold decoration and religious icons. Observe numerous old paintings and frescos hanging throughout. Head up to the organ loft or bell tower for encompassing views of the plaza. A nighttime light show tells town's history accompanied by a light projection on the church's façade. • Be sure to ask for a student rate if you are one. They attempted to charge me different fees each time, but it's inexpensive anyways. On Saturday evenings in the summer (I think at 8 or 9pm) they have...  more »
  • This monastery is large and demonstrates the importance which have had in the region. Today it is more or less well maintained and recently to see if there the lines, one can imagine the life that these monks had to have. The cenote that provided their water, couisine garden which was to serve as a kitchen garden and a large church which was to all the inhabitants of the time. The worth of this small town by scope of the monument and current life around him.

  • Fine example of local architecture. A symbol of this beautiful colonial town. A place of faith but also of welcome and hospitality to locals. Mystic.

  • This is a really beautiful old church with some nice alters inside. The grounds are really beautiful.
  • This place is highly overrated. Roy's review is correct. The rooms are empty and they charge money for the visit. You are better off seeing the exterior from the square.
  • Interesting place, rich with history. A little lacking in information around the place to know more, but well worth a visit.
  • The city is inviting everyone for free to come and see the history of this beautiful place. A spectacular show screen every night on the walls of the Convento.
  • valladolid very saddly city a lot of suicides in this town
