Ek Balam Mayan Ruins, Temozon

(4.9/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Transport yourself back in time as you admire the ancient and sophisticated Ek Balam Mayan Ruins, built well over 2000 years ago. A lesser-known and smaller ruin than others in the area, but no less impressive, the complex rarely gets busy, leaving you to explore on your own terms, and even climb the ruins themselves. Consider taking a guide with you to get the most out of the complex, and get a better impression of what life here was like all those years ago. Don’t forget your camera, bug spray, sunscreen, and plenty of water to keep you hydrated while you wander around the ruins. • My wife and I have been to four other archaeological sites and we loved Ek Balaam. We traveled with friends and have used the guides at the sites several times. I read up on the site, and wish that I ...  more »
  • The site is easily accessible by public transport from Valladolid: there is parking of 35 and 37, in calle 44 between collectivos and from there with just under half an hour you can reach directly the Archaeological Park. for the return, the same cab company-collectivos has its own area right in the parking lot with a sign. The ruins are extraordinary, the main pyramid dominates the local vegetation offering an amazing view of the rest of the facilities, and has beautiful decorative masks in the grout. is relatively little known, which will experience even more authentic than in places like Chichen, Uxmal or Cobà. Highly recommended!

  • Site small and not very crowded but worth a visit, for its proximity to the highway from Cancun to Merida and its proximity to Valladolid. It is possible to climb on the ruins and enjoy a beautiful view from the top of the site. the site is the only one that allows you to watch some parts reconstructed that give an idea of how was the city at the time of the Mayans and this in my opinion is a big plus.
