Santa Prisca Cathedral, Taxco

(4.8/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Admire the grand scale and ornate design of Santa Prisca Cathedral, a place of worship that stands as a testament to the historic wealth of the mining town during the 18th century. Built between 1751 and 1758, the cathedral's stone exterior has a pink hue and reflects a bold, but detailed baroque style. The opulent cathedral was built under the command of Jose de la Borda, a Catalan mine owner, and one of the richest men in the region. The exhorbitant expense of the building project, however, nearly bankrupted him. Once the tallest building in the country, the cathedral's interior showcases nine floor-to-ceiling, gold-covered altarpieces, as well as paintings by Miguel Cabrera. • One of the most amazing churches I've ever seen. A must if you are visiting Taxco.
  • Amazing history as to how quickly it was built and the man behind the idea.
  • Very nice place to chill. Restaurants around are a little (pico) on the expensive side but very lovely.
  • Beautiful place only magic in the world.
