Ruin Historic Site
Visit the ancient archaeological site of Mitla, the most notable relic of the Zapotec culture. Situated in the area that was inhabited by the Zapotec perhaps as early as 900 BCE, the site was a religious center and contains ruins from the 13th and 14th centuries. Take a guided tour of the ruins to learn about the ancient city’s rich history and cultural heritage. Admire the impressive structures, adorned with intricate stone mosaics and geometric designs, distinguishing them from other ruins in Mexico. Put Mitla on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our San Pablo Villa de Mitla trip itinerary planner.

  • Admirable construction from Mosaic, huge stone blocks have been processed from where exactly the stones came from you don't know, but you can admire this beautiful construction.

  • It's a very small ruins, but the really extraordinary are Zapotec borders of the construction. With a degree of detail and a wide variety, are a couple show admire. The Church is ugly, but the visit the tiny salvn ruins.

  • Nice Prehispanic archaeological site. A church dating from the settlement is built on what was a Zapoteco temple before the arrival of the Spaniards. However several problems: 1. almost no explanatory plaques. So either you take a guide or you have very little information. 2. far from Oaxaca. This visit monopolizes minimum half a day for a site which is viste in 1 h to pretty much. 3. the transport to get there from the city of Oaxaca is not great. Take a shared taxi (I recommend, they get 6 people in the car, no belt, rude...) or a bus not great either. So if you stay a long time in Oaxaca, you are motorized and plan to take a guide, go ahead. Otherwise, I advise not necessarily (or so the same day as hiervé el agua do that to Mitla)

  • It's a very well conserved archeological site, has incredible views and the guided tour is excellent. There is an artisan market to buy clothes and food while you visit.
  • Worth checking out on the way to hierve el agua, but not as impressive as most other ruins in Mexico.
  • The only place worth visiting here. The rooms are beautiful and well preserved, the detail on the walls is beautiful. No two decorations are alike! Also really enjoyed the plant life, especially the cactuses used as fences!
  • It's extremely average. Would not recommend
  • Smaller than Monte Alban but really impressing
