Visit the ancient archaeological site of Mitla, the most notable relic of the Zapotec culture. Situated in the area that was inhabited by the Zapotec perhaps as early as 900 BCE, the site was a religious center and contains ruins from the 13th and 14th centuries. Take a guided tour of the ruins to learn about the ancient city’s rich history and cultural heritage. Admire the impressive structures, adorned with intricate stone mosaics and geometric designs, distinguishing them from other ruins in Mexico. I recommend it widely.

In addition, for being at the base of a mountain and next to the Cathedral built by the Spanish, a beautiful landscape with the set.

The unusual Zapotec designs on the buildings make this site worth visiting. If you are into Zentangling this might give you some new material. The site is not huge, there are some beautiful flowering trees and cactus gardens at the entrance as well as a photographic Spanish church. We hired a driver for $10 US/ hour to take us here.
This is a very unique and beautiful place. It is a great example of Zapotec culture and architecture. This site has been continually inhabited for 2000 years. It would have been interesting to see it in its prime with the brightly painted stucco. Definitely worth the visit. Take a guided tour of you can.
Mitla is interesting. I wouldn't say it is my favourite of the Mayan ruins in Mexico but the patterns in the stonework was the most elaborate that I've seen besides the carvings in Copan Honduras. A nice stop before Hierve el agua. 70 pesos entry
The ruins are nice but the place seems a little forgotten and not very well taken care of.
Impressive archeological area, with available certified tourist guides for about $200 pesos for a group of 4. They know everything you need to know about the place. Highly recommended. Impressive views too. A full tour takes probably 1 hour plus transportation. Wear comfortable shoes.
