Fabrica La Aurora, San Miguel de Allende

4.5
Visit Fabrica La Aurora, a historical textile factory housing an array of galleries, exhibitions, and shops. Peruse high-end homewares, prints of famous artworks, and exhibitions by local artists, all set among the remnants of heavy mill machinery. After walking around and taking in the vast quantity of wares, pop into one of the gourmet restaurants and cafes for a bite to eat and a rejuvenating cup of coffee. Due to the scale of this place, it's recommended that you leave a couple of hours to absorb everything, which may test the patience of some children. • We went on a grey, overcast day and were very pleased with the variety and quality of offerings on display and for sale. Arrived at 3 pm and found that the shop owners were offering wine, soft drinks ...  more »

  • Uncomfortably up it’s own backside. Not half as wonderful as it thinks it is and everything WAY overpriced. No Mexicans to be seen - just wealthy Americans.  more »

  • I loved the place. Such a beautiful space with different art galleries to browse around and food places as well. Couldn’t enjoy the café areas because all tables were full, so a bit more of space or chairs would be great. If you are interested in art then this is the place. You can definitely relax here and have a great day while visiting San Miguel.
  • There aren't as many shops as I expected but maybe less is more in this case. The building itself is special and fascinating and a lot of the factory parts of it are artistically displayed and incorporated, showing respect and admiration for the history. Local culture is not ignored here either. Our Lady of Guadalupe looks down on all from the ceiling in the main corridor, surrounded by flowers of adoration.
  • Fábrica la Aurora used to be an actual factory, it's now home to many artworks, like paintings, antiques, furniture, and clothes. Many of the works can be bought. The place also holds studios for some of the local artists, you can visit their studio and see their works. If you get tired, there is a cafe you can visit. Around the building you'll see some equipment that belong to the factory in it's original days. It's a pretty cool place to visit in a less crowded area of town.
  • A must see when in the area! Beautiful galleries, shops and cafes. The building and it's history itself is very interesting and transformation into the current use is extrodinary! You will be amazed.
  • This place is a collective of artist studios and galleries with a few restaurants. We ate at the Cafe and Grandpa's Burgers, both were great. The art galleries were first class, with many famous artist and pieces of fine art. I bought a print signed by the artist and got to talk to him about his process. Many of the artists teach classes or give private lessons, too. There are also antique stores and interior decorators. We walked to the Fabrica from our AirB&B in town and it was an easy walk of less than a mile. We made a whole day out of our visit, it was worth the trip.
