San Jose del Cabo Church, San Jose del Cabo

(4.4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Visit San Jose del Cabo Church, an attractive and storied place of worship in the historical center of town. The first incarnation of the church was founded in 1734 by Jesuitical Friar Nicolas Tamaral. Destroyed and damaged during various altercations and natural disasters over the centuries, the church first stood as it appears today in 1840--though again, in 1918, a hurricane caused significant damage to the site. Rebuilt midway into the 20th century, the church today stands as a symbol of the town and witness to local history, with events of great significance linked with the life of the building. Snap pictures of its simple, graceful facade, and note the mosaic depicting the killing of Friar Tamaral during an uprising by the local indigenous population. • We expected the Church to be more like a cathedral. It is very plain, both inside and outside. My wife didn't even want to take any pictures.
  • Fairly typical-looking 1700's Spanish church. Nice inside, and right next to the town square. We were told there is a very excellent men's choir that sings at the noon services on Sundays.
  • I walked into the town of San Jose del Cabo and in the town square I saw a Church and decided to go inside and take a look. It was very nice.

  • Quaint, but doesn't compare to the grandiose churches of Europe. A special little spot if you are in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.
  • Rustic church, the color is great, love this places.
  • Pretty from the outside, central location but underwhelming interior
  • Beautiful rustic buildings that takes you back in time
  • An iglecia rustica founded by the first settlers of San Jose del Cabo during the rise of the Catholic evangelisation
