A visit to the 20 minutes in a room that has as main objective the sale of pieces of amber rather than promoting education. The Museum's name is big. Taking pictures of any kind and without further explanation by people who are there are not allowed to sell amber jewelry, one goes to see what are the extra exposure. The cost is symbolic (thank goodness) and it would be better to allow the taking of photos or at least have a good brochure. You can precindir of the Museum during your visit to San Cristobal de las Casas. A better explanation of what amber is located in Tuxtla in the paleontological museum.

Amber is a fossilized plant resin that comes from legumes of the genus Hymenaea trees exudation sp. They say that these trees existed over twenty-five million years ago and they are family of tree guapinol (H.courbaril), which currently exists in Chiapas. There are a range of colours ranging from the transparent, white, yellow, red, Brown to black. And, in addition, these colors have a variety of hues. And this makes this unique resin. And this makes that there are museums, such as those of San Cristóbal de las Casas. Because amber is the precious jewel of Chiapas.

Small but very interesting to visit and learn some. Also has one of extremely rare scorpions in Amber so that's very cool to see. And a beautiful and historic building.

Small, but interesting and for 25 pesos I think it's worth it to learn a bit about amber and see some interesting pieces. All explanations are in Spanish.

Good little museum. They also give a quick lesson in how to tell real ambar from the fake stuff.
