  • During a visit to the Mercado Modelo, I was advised to visit this museum. On the same day the museum I stepped in to the precious metal and everything about the edelseen Ámbar Larimar. For only 50 pesos entrance fee, you get a tour with a very detailed explanation of these two ítems. You find out how Ambar originated, where it is mined and especially when you need to look for when purchasing this gemstone. The precious metal also Larimar is discussed. After a visit to this museum, I am sure that you, too, nepAmbar and nepLarimar know ie distinct from real Ambar and Larimar real. Maynard Da Costa Gomez

  • The place is worthy to admire and applaud for the rescue that have made the building where is located the Museum (Convento de la Merced). A jail that was, is now a beautiful and stately building that for several years is being rescued by a civil association... my respect and applause as worthy and laborious work. The Museum is small, but contains much valuable information about amber, as well as a beautiful and interesting collection of objects elaborated with this resin. Also contains a shop where you can buy beautiful objects made with genuine amber (awarded certificate of authenticity).

  • We'll worth the $25 to get in. The building itself is quite attractive and the exhibits are very well put together to exhibit an interesting range of Amber pieces. Kids of the right age will get excited by the bugs stuck in many of the pieces while adults can enjoy the artistry and craft. The museum is open until 8, which is nice as many close much earlier.
  • The museum of amber tells you a story of the only precious and semi-precious stone of plant origin in the world. It is part of a residual plant resin of trees dating from 25 to 40 million years that over time underwent a process of fossilization forming irregular masses. Undoubtedly a wealth for Mexico and Chiapas that delights not very well-known vital processes.
  • MONEY SCAM in the ‘museum shop’. After spending half an hour in a small room they call a museum, we went downstairs to shop at their Amber shop. My mother bought earrings for 500 pesos, and gave a 1000 pesos bill to the girl who was the shop assistant. 5 minutes later, after waiting for the earrings to be packed, my mother (who doesn’t speak Spanish) was just given her nicely packed earrings, but no change. The girl pretended not to understand what my mother wanted from her!! Then I approached and since I spoke Spanish and I saw my mother giving the assistant the 1000 bill (which I stated in Spanish) the girl suddenly ‘understood’ that she ‘made a mistake’ and gave us 500 back. I have read about money scams like that in Mexico, but I did not expect it in a museum....the whole ‘museum’ is basically one small room with some amber in it, and it just felt like it was not a real museum (=place of learning and education) but just a business scheme to make you buy amber at their shop and ‘forget’ to give you the change.
  • The Amber museum is a must when in town, you'll learn everything about this amazing jewel, it's unique beauty and the beautiful designs, you'll find information about this fossilized tree resin and beautiful designs,. You can purchase from earings to sculptures of beautiful genuine Amber.
  • Great place if you want to understand more about the amber reain and how it has been used in history and is extracted today. Tons of examplea and different colors. Ohhh and they teach you how to spot fake amber jewlery. And the gift shop is really good stuff
