Catedral de San Cristobal de Las Casas, San Cristobal de las Casas
(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Walk up the hill to admire the artistry and atmosphere of Catedral de San Cristobal de Las Casas, a brightly colored Catholic church and local landmark. First built in 1528, the cathedral features an 18th-century yellow Baroque facade decoratively striped by red features. While plant motifs in the mortar and sculptures in the niches demand close inspection, the coloration of the church looks pleasing from afar, perfectly complementing the hues of the plaza that lies in front of it. Inside, find a number of Baroque artworks, including two altarpieces. • This Cathedral was established in 1539 and in some places it's showing its age, but nevertheless very beautiful and enjoyed the peace and serenity that I felt once inside the church.
