El Acueducto De Queretaro, Queretaro City

#2 of 19 in Sightseeing in Queretaro City
Landmark Tourist Spot
Admire the effort and energy that went into the design and construction of El Acueducto De Queretaro, one of the largest such structures in the country. With 74 tall arches, the aqueduct extends 1,298 m (4,259 ft) through the downtown area. Constructed between 1726 and 1738 at a cost of $125,000, the structure supplied much-needed fresh drinking water to the town, which celebrated its completion with a 15-day festival. Today, the aqueduct represents one of the town's most famous structures, and has a symbolic value as well as an aesthetic and architectural one.
