Isla Marietas National Park, Punta de Mita

(4.1/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Encounter a wealth of sea creatures at Isla Marietas National Park, a marine park centered around a group of small uninhabited islands. An hour-long boat ride from the coast of Puerto Vallarta gets you to the park, where government protection from fishing and hunting has created a rich and diverse ecosystem. Although you cannot access the islands--save for one secluded beach--the focus here is really on the water. Take a whale-watching tour to spot breaching humpbacks and dolphins, along with blue-footed boobies on the islands' rugged rocks. Alternatively, head beneath the surface on a snorkeling or scuba diving trip to meet manta rays, octopuses, and sea turtles. • Too many people, not really what you expect ftom a supposed " romantic " place. You have to wait in line to fave access to the love beach. Good snorkeling around the island, and a too crowded beach.
  • Very glad we went on this day trip. Saw whales on the way to the island. We stopped and watched them for 15 min....very cool we were very close. must do... bring a diving mask and fins if you want to ...  more »
  • It was heartbreaking to read of the damage to the reef caused by tourism, but I am so glad the government has taken steps to preserve and restore. This is a beautiful gem!
