Pier / Boardwalk Tourist Spot
A stroll along Puerto Vallarta's El Malecon Boardwalk allows you to immerse yourself in local life at its best. Day and night, the walkway (whose name means "esplanade along a waterfront" in Spanish) serves as the heart of the city. Many of the area's top attractions line the pedestrian-friendly promenade, including a lighthouse, several notable monuments, and the main city square. You'll also find an abundance of cafes, bars, restaruants, and beachside activities. Appreciate the rich aromas of local street food as you meander along the pathway. • Malecon in puerto Vallarta is a must-see when you go to this city. Currently it is pedestrian zone and you can enjoy the ride theatre or shows outdoors, see the zocalo (main square) see several sculptures and entering a restaurant or bar or shopping there are many galleries of art and even good tequilas with these and handicrafts typical, sweet tasting, typical markets and shops very fine jewelry. If you do not walk along the malecon you don't know Vallarta.

  • Rich in culture, art, dining, people watching, shopping - experience what locals and tourists love about Puerto Vallarta  more »
  • A stroll that is rich with fabulous sculptures and art. But don't walk it on a summer afternoon. The heat is stifling!  more »

  • Fairly nice walking area. Good open spaces, reasonable seating for when one tires or gets too hot. Interesting seasonal art installments/exhibits. Too bad about the shops peddling to tourists in the worst possible way and the too-loud, too-rowdy bars and clubs. If you're going to PV to tie one on and get your freak on, then fine. Otherwise - nope.
  • Great way to spend a night. Go to La Palapa restaurant and then walk along the beach. Amazing atmosphere and cool way to see Puerto Vallarta and the beach. Cool night time outing with the family and easy shopping for tourists.
  • The Malecon is beautiful area between the beach and the first line of shops in Puerto Vallarta. There are numerous quirky sculptures and statues along the way that provide endless photo opportunities. There are bench seats along the way but little in the way of shade from the sun. So early evening is the best time to stroll with the locals before sunset. If you're lucky you may catch the Papantla Flyers performing their death-defying ritual hanging by their ankles from a 50ft pole. However, if you walk near the shops you will be pestered every step of the way by shopkeepers inviting you to view or sample their wares or timeshare sales people masquerading as tour operators/agents. Some of the restaurants are over-priced tourist traps. Look for those patronised by Mexicans or better still check out the side streets or the blocks back from the Malecon.
  • Most beautiful malecon! Go for a ling walk during sunset and you won't be upset, watch the local acts as you meander through the trees and locals
  • The boardwalk had nice photo ops, flea markets and food. We had fun walking around.
