Playa Zicatela, Puerto Escondido

(4.6/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Head to the surfer's paradise of Playa Zicatela, a long sandy beach offering the famous waves of the Mexican Pipeline. Stick to the northern end of the beach for the best surfing spots, and the majority of the beach's hip cafes, restaurants, and accommodations. Beginners and those looking for a little more quiet will want to head to the south of the 3 km (1.9 mi) beach, where the surf still presents a challenge, but is more suitable for newcomers to the sport. Don't head out into the waters without a board, as the undertow isn't safe for swimmers. Using our online itinerary creator, Puerto Escondido attractions like Playa Zicatela can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Absolutely crowded with beginner surfers throwing their longboards. Great if you can get there on a day when it's not so busy. Watch out for an aggressive instructor named Alejandro. He is known for h...  more »
  • He was not to go to puerto escondido and I was surprised as crystal water of its beaches. Is super quiet for an afternoon with the family and enjoy the sunset. I recommend taking a tour boat offering the local lords, some are very cheap and worth the experience, we had the fortune to see turtles. In addition, take you to the main beaches and have a bit of history of each place. Very nice puerto escondido. I have to go back!
