Laguna de Manialtepec, Puerto Escondido
(4.6/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Explore Laguna de Manialtepec, a scenic coastal lagoon surrounded by lush mangrove trees. The name of the lagoon means "Lizard Place" in the indigenous Nahuatl language. Rent a sailboat, enjoy the picturesque landscape, or take a swim in the lake's mix of fresh and saltwater. Birders should keep their eyes out for numerous permanent and migratory avian species. If you visit at night, you might see the lagoon's famous phosphorescent lights, set aglow by movement. • Just a 20 minute drive from Puerto Escondido, this is a great site for birders. Visited 3 times with a group of friends: guided morning boat trip to see birds, evening bio-luminescence swim, and self-...  more »
  • We were lucky to get the last day of little Moon, in the season of plankton and was a truly amazing experience, sailing in the lagoon at midnight, in the dark and suddenly the wake of the boat begins to shine! Later Pepe, he guides us Indian where there were more plankton as well as all the scientific explanation, life jackets and water, he no photos because plankton is microscopic and does not appear in the photos but to the swim he shines this warm and water because there are hot springs. Something to be live! 100% recommended

  • Although we were in full moon, we could appreciate the bioluminescence phenomenon, but the ideal is to go when there is no moon as best seen in the dark night. Very friendly staff, ideal is to go in your own vehicle and only pay for the service. It's amazing to see how bodies are illuminated when swimming! I took water from the lagoon in a plastic container and had an interesting table lamp during the rest of the night in the hotel
