Laguna de Manialtepec, Puerto Escondido

(4.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Explore Laguna de Manialtepec, a scenic coastal lagoon surrounded by lush mangrove trees. The name of the lagoon means "Lizard Place" in the indigenous Nahuatl language. Rent a sailboat, enjoy the picturesque landscape, or take a swim in the lake's mix of fresh and saltwater. Birders should keep their eyes out for numerous permanent and migratory avian species. If you visit at night, you might see the lagoon's famous phosphorescent lights, set aglow by movement. • The purpose of most of the people going to the lagoon is to enjoy the bioluminisencia, which is surprising, but what I find a true surprise, unexpected and wonderful, was the sky full of stars, which left me speechless.
