Categories: Churches, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
Admire 16th-century architecture at Iglesia de Tonantzintla, which was constructed over four centuries. The religious structure serves as the main temple of the town of Puebla, and was constructed in four phases, which lasted from the 16th to the 19th century. This included setting the basis for the structure, adding the tower, dome, transept, and altar piece, constructing a new facade, and finally adding the final decorative touches. Inside, find a towering nave where natural light fills the room through glass windows. The interior features touches of baroque new Spain style, including indigenous motifs, such as an angel wearing a feathered headdress. Put Iglesia de Tonantzintla into our Puebla vacation trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
