#5 of 13 in Parks in Playa del Carmen
Make friends with hyper-intelligent sea creatures at Dolphinaris Riviera Maya Park, a facility in the Mexican Caribbean adorned with palm and palapas trees. After an hour-long dolphin experience, refresh in the restaurant, snack bar, and available VIP lounge, or simply relax on the sundeck. As is usually the case, be prepared to pay quite a bit for photographs, which are taken professionally by the park's staff. • Loved the Dolphins and Trainers, Photo Shop was Horrible Ripoff - a real Gestapo! The location was large and fairly well maintained. We've been to 3 of these type and this was the second cleanest. The outside trainers and staff were friendly, however the photo shop staff inside were rude and would not cooperate with making their EXTREME overpriced options somewhat palatable. The photo shop manager was clueless and wasn't able to do anything and even said he didn't care if we left bad reviews or not. Guess he has another job lined up, as with an attitude like that he will need it! Expect them to try to sucker you into paying 3 to 4 times your entrance fee for photos. They won't let you being your own camera so unless you bring someone along that doesn't want to participate and who has a great zoom lens, you better bust out the wallet and prepare to pay for an all inclusive hotel night at a 5 star resort for a few pictures. The dolphins were great however and the price paid for that experience was spot on!
  • We went to this park this week and overall it was an amazing experience! The two downfalls are the wait and the prices of the photos. We were booked for 10:30am, or so we thought. The shuttle was only picking us up at that time (at our resort) Once arrived we had an hour wait. I think this is where they try to get people to spend money on souvenirs and/or at the restaurant. We just lounged in the day beds and enjoyed the dolphins do their tricks for the other groups. Once we got started, we enjoyed every minute. The second downfall, the photo packages are grossly overpriced and they only offer packages. We would have been happy with purchasing one or two photos only but that wasn’t even an option. Very disappointing, but it was their loss because we just didn’t buy anything at all. Great experience otherwise. Which was really the purpose of the visit to the park. Good value, $129 for two ppl. Friendly staff. Our guide Alma was knowledgeable, funny and had a kind report with the dolphins.
  • It was such a once in a lifetime experience! We did the trainer for a day, which included spending the entire day learning and playing with the dolphins.(we booked in advance online and got it for 50% off plus admission to Ventura park In Cancun, plus a great lunch!) We got approx 3.5hrs in the water with dolphins and we did a lot of tricks with them. We even scuba dived with them in the deeper pool and fed them. The package also includes 2printed photos, which is a good deal bc the PHOTOS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE! Beware!! The entire business is about ripping you off with low-mid quality photos. Keep it in mind so it doesn't ruin the amazing experience with the dolphins. Trainers were so loving to the dolphins!
  • I went here today. It was a great experience. We had a wonderful group and the staff was awesome! The dolphins were amazing and looked very well taken care of by their trainers. I only rate it as an okay experience because of the expensive pictures. It was like other reviewers have reported. Prices start at $154. I only wanted 2 pics and they would not let me pay for them individually. I even offered to pay $20 per pic but they prefer $154 or nothing. Really would've been nice to take a couple of pics home but it's all good. The staff and experience with the dolphins were great. We even got a deal with our resort where we paid $79 for 2 people and that included a round trip ride! We got to hug, kiss, touch the dolphin and get to pick 1 trick. We opted for the foot push and it was beyond cool. On a side note, I took a pic with one of the fake dolphins outside to reenact my experience. :-)
  • Trainer for a day. Brilliant programme. Booked on line so got a good deal. If you want extra photos add at time of your booking. Spent all day with the dolphins. Lots of activities with them including scuba dive and finished with a dolphin painting a t shirt for us. Very professional staff. Dolphins are very well cared for and loved. Happy days. Thank you for a very special day. Highly recommend.

Where to stay in Playa del Carmen

Look no farther than the shorefront if you're after a luxury hotel or resort with a swimming pool--some of the largest and most lavish options lie a few minutes from the town center, offering spacious settings and impeccable views over the water. The town center--especially the main street, Quinta Avenida--brims with smaller and more budget-friendly accommodations, a bit farther from the beach but just a stone's throw from a wide range of eateries and night spots.
