Santa Clara del Cobre, Patzcuaro
(4.4/5 based on 220 reviews on the web)
Named "the Magical Village" in 2010, Santa Clara del Cobre represents both a historic site and a place of amazing art and craft. Spend an afternoon sightseeing and learning about the Purépecha people, who lived here in the pre-Hispanic era, and were extremely advanced smiths. Go around the town and see the two plazas, decorated with copper on benches and roofs. Visit the two churches and enjoy going around many old-fashioned shops, some of which still have the forges running and accept visitors. Make sure you stop by the museum of copper, too. If you visit in late August, attend the festival of copper artistry, which also includes a competition. See Santa Clara del Cobre and all Patzcuaro has to offer by arranging your trip with our Patzcuaro itinerary maker.

  • A great place to buy beautiful handicrafts in copper and learn more about the process of its elaboration. The people of all those local is more than friendly. Is can walk by the small town, visit the Bell Tower of the Church and eat carnitas in the street. The streets glow with pots and copper pots hung on doors, indicating that there is no sale. You arrive by car, is one hour from Patzcuaro and is very safe for the road.
