Formally named Plaza de la Constitucion, Zocalo dates back to the 16th century. Take a break from sightseeing and rest on the verdant tree-filled square, observe the lively atmosphere from a cafe, and people watch. Admire the grandiose colonial buildings that surround the square, paying special attention to the Baroque cathedral built of volcanic green stone, and the Gothic state government palace. • Zocalo Square is a wonderful center of the community, every night it is full with local people enjoying life. Surrounded by restaurants and street vendors, it seems like the heart of the city. Many bands play on any given day. Be sure to try some chapulines in different flavours you'll find by the bucket for sale on the street. It's really the best place to experience the colorful culture of the Oaxaca people.
  • It's a maze! Lots to buy, see, taste, smell; all senses are involved! You must go!
  • The Center of Oaxaca. You will find everything here. Food, drinks, shopping, churches, park, entertainment, etc. Parking is hard to het, so just go into the "Estacionamientos" and save yourself the trouble. The cost is about $1 Dollar/hour.
  • This is like many other zocolo's in Mexico. They're are better but a lot worse. It's a good place to base yourself and explore Oaxaca from there.
  • Nice place to walk. Music concerts, trees, handcrafts street vendors, calmed and relaxed place
