  • Why 3? Because we must distinguish Lachatao of other much less beautiful villages and under the thumb of Sierra norte. We went by bus (3 buses a day) of Oaxaca to Cuayimoloyas where we stayed 3 km before the turn-off to Benito juarez 40 minutes walk. It looks like a ghost soulless village, single point of interest the murador which allows to have a view across a Valley, the suspension bridge is a tourist destination and has no other local function. Very bad welcome present for cash only and very bad accommodation. From there we walked Latuvi the nothing extraordinary in this village then continued the same day until Lachatao by the camino real. The 1st part of this hike see 2/3 up to the Virgin is boring between bous them and cornfields, but then you walk into the canyon and it's worth. Lachatao is a beautiful village which also has an existence prior to others, else Veronica has tourist information will give you plenty of information about the history of these pueblos. And especially what does not hurt, it is wonderful to stay in cabin: huge, beautiful architecture and interior decoration, views, that same insured... In short I recommended so stay has Lachatao and radiate from this village in all cases completed by Lachatao for won't be disappointed in a sense reverses. Of there 3 collectivos per day to reach the bus of Ixtlan.
