(4.4/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
The oldest in Oaxaca, Mercado Benito Juárez has been operating since 1893. Experience a vibrant blend of sights and aromas as you wander the maze-like rows of stalls, which sell everything from fresh produce and local delicacies to souvenirs and handicrafts. Stock up on fresh meat, fish, and vegetables, browse the stalls selling aromatic herbs and spices, or order a fruit smoothie. The market is a good place to try iconic local street snacks, such as tamales, a string cheese called "quesillo," or chapulines, spicy fried grasshoppers. • My experience was not the most pleasant since unfortunately stole me my wallet with cash and IDs inside, I said the same police officers there is a gang of pickpockets who prey on tourists distracted as I. so better take care of their belongings. You can find the typical products of the State at an excellent price that the visit is a must if you want to take home some of the cuisine of this beautiful state.

  • They had recommended us to have breakfast elsewhere and, awkwardly, case we did. The last day we declare that we had to go to the Juarez. We ask bread of yolk with chocolate milk (delicious) and Oaxacan dish... We left full and happy. Recommendation: if it is to take, buy larger yolk bread. It has more butter. Also it is worth carrying chapulines and cheese.

  • Commerce at a very basic level, where all the necessary consumables of a typical family can be purchased. If you've never been in a traditional market, then you definitely have to go there. While at it, get yourself some custom-made chocolate, and try free samples of all sorts of different types of mezcal--the traditional alcoholic drink of this part of Mexico.
  • It's a Central market, cool to visit and maybe buy something. Lots of grass hoppers to eat, if you're willing to give it a try!
