  • Built in the grounds of a former monastery, the founder and director of the garden Ethnobotanical Alejandro de Avila Blomberg and its staff has created a wonder. Plants of all types from all parts of Oaxaca give testamonio that this State is one of the most diverse worldwide. Every aspect of the garden is planned in agreement with the health of the plants, their natural enviromentos, and its functions by humans. For example, plants were planted closer useful by the monks of the buildings where they lived (for example the Cactus with its parasite cochineal, which was one of their products as a fabric ink more profitable). A large part of the garden is dedicated to the indigenous cultures domesticated plants – many types of corn, for example, and also its wild ancestor. Also if you are interested in birds, has identified more than 150 species in the garden, resident and migratory. It is necessary to guide the garden - there are many interesting stories which can be heard on the plants, its origins, evolution, use, and conservation. Also during construction uncovered many structures of the monastery, which have rebuilt and incorporated in designed it the garden. If you go to the second floor of the Museum of the cultures of Oaxaca, which is already in the monastery, you can see a beautiful view of the garden from above. Do not go to Oaxaca without visiting this gem!
